Shannon's giveaway entry

Another gorgeous entry for the giveaway just received from Shannon of My Girl - thanks Shannon for taking the time to put such a beautiful contribution together for each category! (NB: I feel a bit self conscious about posting the last words but its very nice to have such a kind thing said about oneself that maybe it will encourage readers to tell someone today how much they mean to them to brighten their day just like mine was).

Shannon's entry...

In my Bag..., I'm never without my trusty vintage wallpaper wallet...(well a bag in it's own right) I love my wallet to death as you can tell by the pics. I get so many comments on my trusty companion. I say companion, cause she has been known to hold my keys, mobile phone and a 1001 cards (that I seem to accumulate on my travels) all at the same time when I seem to have my hands full on my op shopping trips.
So now I try and have two of your vintage wallets on hand,my very first one I purchased(for biz cards) and the wallpaper one for day to day importance (money!)

For the little miss...
I am forever trying to teach my girls the importance of handmade, especially in these fast paced times, from cooking handmade to gardening and yes I would love to say sewing, but we all know that can be a little difficult at times when you have orders to sew yourself, but I am trying.

and last but not least...
Why I love you....
What is there not to love, you rock girl.
You are an inspiration to me every single day.
You helped me realise my dream and supported me along the way, and for that I am forever grateful.
You are always there for me when I need help.
And most of all you are part of the handmade revolution, bringing beautiful back into these crazy mass production times.
You are unique,inspiring,wonderful,giving person Lyssy...

De-bugging and a little bunting talk

Crucial to having a lot of precious fabrics, wools and trims stored together is a line of defence against moths and silverfish but it is hard to find something natural that is not going to make the space a breathing hazard. I am loving these 'Botanical Bug Busters' by Western Australia's Thurlby Herb Farm. They are beautifully presented and smell delicious - such a shame to put in a cupboard!

I also love how a string of bunting can cheer up a room and the moment I started to create a sense of order in my studio I knew that I would be calling on Shannon of My Girl to make something special for the window. I was thinking retro looking oranges, greens and browns and she met the brief perfectly! This pic was taken this morning with the sun streaming in.

Back Next Week!

I am off to Melbourne for a few days to check out the gift fairs and to soak up the style and watch others drink coffee whilst I indulge in a hot chocolate or 2 to warm me up.

On Friday and Saturday my store will be in the capable hands of Shannon from My Girl. Above is a random pic taken in my store of one of Shannon's Fairy Wing singlets and some Little Miss bags of mine. Drop by and say hi to Shannon and let her show you her fabulous work - she will be even creating some designs in my little studio as well! (please note that we will be closing at the earlier time of 4 on Fri).

Have a great weekend!

Bushka Blitz!

Shannon from My Girl has confessed to Lyssy May that she is going through a bit of a Babushka Doll phase and I couldn't be happier for her as I can decorate the store with her beautiful creations. Above is a row of 'Bushka Babi' Dolls all made from vintage fabrics.

And then there are the key rings...

And of course a little girl's singlet...

I can't wait to see what this clever cookie brings to show Lyssy May next!

Prescious Punk

Just in at Lyssy May are these cute singlets by Shannon of My Girl. Her 'Precious Punk' range is a funky look for little girls and boys with attitude. Shannon has also created bunting in an array of designs from sweet shabby looks to some that compliment the punk vibe (pictured with the singlets).

My Girl is inspired by Shannon's 3 daughters and the label is fast gaining a local reputation for producing cute and quirky looks. I also have some of the adult singlets in stock which has some great appliqued table cloth motifs on them which are still very wearable in Brisbane where it is a nice 27 degrees today!

Tickled Pink

One of the most dangerous things in having a shop combined with my work area is that there are lots of things to distract me when I am in the mood for a bit of procrastinating - particularly rearranging displays. Back when I worked from home the distraction was generally Oprah or the Bold and the Beautiful so I guess I have moved up a notch in the relevance to the task at hand (although an average day at Forester Creations has definitely prepared me for the real world of running a fashion house - or not).

So on Tuesday I was halfway through making a bag when I decide that I need to change my window display - and that this must be done straight away, immediately, now. So with my machine still running I dug out the step ladder and got to work.

This week I am in a bit of a pink mood so I have featured some of the fabulous work of Shannon of My Girl in the window. Her gorgeous creations have been a wonderful addition to the range of products at Lyssy May and pictured are some of her modified singlets along with some other pretty items that I stock, like childrens hats and one of my Little Miss designs. I also used a picnic basket to display a new scarf that has just arrived as part of a range by Judy of Toowoomba (more on her scarves in entries to come).

Hmm, I did say its a dangerous thing but working on displays is also one of the best things about working from a shop too...except maybe for the daily dusting.
