Sushi Sister

I love Japanese print fabrics and this gorgeous pattern begged to be made into one of my chopstick handle bags. This new design is called Suzi Loves Sushi and has just been added to my site. I first made the chopstick designs about 4 years ago and it continues to be one of my favourite styles. I still remember my first customer for the style was my friend Deirdra who was heading out for Chinese with friends for dinner and she couldn't wait to show off her new accessory which not only matched her outfit but also the meal!

A future stitched up

Today at Lyssy May I decided to start my blog.
My blog heading above is actually a scan of some embroidery that I did when I was 10 years old. I attended a holiday school at the local Embroiderer's Guild. We were able to stitch any design we liked and then these were made into bags for us to keep (who knew that 20 years later I'd be running my own handbag business!). The sun was appliqued in yellow fabric and was blanket stitched on - I remember it was a real labour of love.

I also remember being upset when I ran out of the green I was using halfway around my tree but a rather quick thinking and kindly tutor pointed out that the leaves facing the sun would be a different green anyway and I happily finished my tree with a lighter shade.

I guess the bag reflects where it all began for me when I was creating things from a young age and in starting this blog I am excited about providing regular updates about what is happening at my little store in Morningside (Brisbane, Australia). I am looking forward to profiling the fabulous talents that are showcased at Lyssy May as well as providing updates on what is happening with my handbag designs.
